“The Chute,” the third episode in the third season of Star Trek: Voyager, is a classic science-fiction oriented episode that has middling results.
Tom Paris and Harry Kim are accused of being terrorists on the Akritirian home world and are sent to an insane prison, where the inmates are all going stark-raving-mad.
They are going mad because they are all implanted with a device, called “the clamp,” which induces violent behavior. Basically, it encourages the inmates to control the prison’s population by killing each other.
Kim and Paris must fight off the device’s effects to work with other inmates to survive try to escape the prison. Meanwhile, Janeway and the Voyager crew looks for a way to spring the two.
It is a simple episode, and a good one for those who like best buddies Tom Paris and Harry Kim. Other than that, however, it is just OK.
BEST QUOTE:
Tom Paris to Harry Kim: “I remember you saying this man is my friend, no one touches him. I will remember that for a long time.”
THINGS TO WATCH:
Ship Sluts. Paris and Kim make another reference to the Delaney Sisters, members of the crew which are apparently attractive ladies that the two frequently hang out with. While they have never been seen in an episode they are apparently the ship sluts from what I can tell.
